  • Yes! These interventions have no noticeable effect on your placenta capsules. Epidural anesthesia and pitocin break down very quickly after entering the placenta, and encapsulating is a can to assist with your C-section recovery.

Make sure you specify clearly in your birth plan that you will be keeping the placenta, and that it needs to be refrigerated as soon as possible after the birth.

  • Placenta Tincture is an added bonus in that it can be used in addition to and long after the capsules are gone. By tincturing a small piece of the placenta in a high grade alcohol, you can prolong the benefits of your placental hormones. The tincture can be used in any time of trauma, transition, emotional distress and during menopause.

The tincture is allowed to sit for at least six – eight weeks before use. It is very shelf-stable if kept in a cool dark place such as a cupboard, and can last for many, many years.

  • Raw Foods Method

Your placenta is prepared and put into capsules using the Raw Foods Method of preparation which uses lower temperatures and no steaming. This method of placenta preparation yields a higher, more potent capsule. The Raw Foods Method Capsules are NOT recommended for folks with previous history of anxiety, insomnia, jitters or sensitivity to hormones.

This process is only used within the first 48 hours after birth to ensure freshness. Some people choose this method because they are raw food activists and believe the cooking or steaming process destroys some of the nutrients. Using the RAW method provides a burst of energy up front but does not offer the longer more tonifying benefits of TCM. Some benefits for choosing RAW encapsulation would be: long labor, postpartum hemorrhage or history of it, desire to increase breast milk and energy immediately postpartum.

You get approximately 100-175 capsules using the Raw Method.

Traditional Chinese Method/Basic Heated Method (TCM)

Your placenta is prepared and put into capsules using the lightly steamed method. The placenta is not cooked all the way through and can retain many nutrients and hormones. TCM is believed to have tonifying, healing, and warming properties.

Warmth postpartum is thought to be essential to replenishing and moving blood, balancing the Qi and energy and removing obstructions. If your placenta has been frozen, this is always the method of choice.

You get approximately 75 -150 capsules using the TCM Method.

When you reserve your encapsulation service, we will discuss your maternal health history and determine the best option for preparation.

Our capsules are made from 100% vegetable product. They are free of starch, sugar, corn, syrup, wheat, dairy, and other potential irritants and preservatives.

  • Placentas that have been properly frozen (double-bagged and protected from freezer-burn) can be encapsulated up to six months after the birth (even longer in some cases).

We will ask that you move your placenta to begin thawing into your refrigerator for 24-hours before we pick up from you.
